FEATURES AND BENEFITS

Appropriate & Modest

Music is always appropriate for families and kids, costumes are tasteful and modest and choreography is developmentally appropriate. We believe kids should be kids for as long as possible and we do what is right, not what is popular

Competition Readiness

Students have the option to audition and be a part of our Performing Arts Company. They attend Reginal and National level dance competitions. We attend 4 per year, this is a highlight for many dancers in our Performing Arts Company members!

Dedicated Teachers

Our faculty is the heart of BDS and they are committed to helping each student foster a lifelong love of dance. Each of our instructors comes with years of experience and dedication to helping students improve to reach their goals – whatever those may be.

Events

We aim to provide more than the weekly dance classes. From our Winter camps, Sampler classes, Summer Camps and our year-end Recitals we love to give our BDS families all the extras!

Opportunities

We offer all students, not just company members, the opportunity to dance and volunteer at Retirement homes, dance in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, and participate in studio social events and Master Class workshops

Modern Facility

Families have access to our 3,500 sq ft facility that include 3 up to date, modern studios with professional sprung dance floors that reduce the risk of injury to young growing dancers.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Classes run from September-June of each year. The recital is our big finale for the season. It is typically the second weekend of June.

  • We take registrations all year long! Participation in the recital is dependent upon costume availability. It is best to start in September as the students are learning techniques and building skills throughout the entire year.

  • If your child is 3-6 years old, we recommend that your child take the Twinkle Star Dance and Pre School Tumble class to gain a strong dance foundation.

If your child is Kindergarten and up, he/she may take as many classes as he/she wants. Being well versed in several styles is always a good idea. Each genre of dance is a separate class. We highly recommend that all dancers take ballet, as it is the foundation for all dance, and will allow your child to be successful in whatever styles he/she desires later on. We are happy to make recommendations. Please contact us.

  • For your first class, we recommend your child wears comfortable clothing – leggings and a t-shirt – something easy to move and stretch in. Arrive 10 minutes early.

Please click HERE for class the appropriate shoes and attire for each class. Once registered, these are the shoes and clothing that your child will need. We recommend ordering from our dancewear online store. Stop by the studio any night during regular hours to get sized for shoes.

  • We typically hold our recital on the second weekend in June.

  • Our teachers have years of experience. If they feel like your child needs you they will come and get you. Please allow our teachers to build a relationship with your child, comfort her when she misses you, and help her to gain independence. It takes some students 4-6 weeks to really get used to the class.

Should the teachers have any concerns about your child, they will share them with you. It is very normal for little ones to do nothing at times, to cry when you leave. Our teachers are trained in toddler behavior and know exactly how to handle all of these situations. Please communicate with the teacher if you have any questions or concerns about what your child is doing in class. 99.9% of the time it is normal behavior.

  • Give your child 4-6 weeks to get used to coming to class. If he/she is coming home and practicing what is learned in class, that is a great sign!

It is normal to feel overwhelmed when you first start a class. Give your son or daughter time to adjust. Most of the time the feelings are normal and will level out once your child gets comfortable. Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.
